Battlefield Pirates 2 Open Beta Released!

Pirates, buccaneers, swashbucklers, corsairs, marauders, raiders, freebooters, looters, as well as all landlubbers out there: Happy International Talk Like A Pirate Day! On this occasion, we are very glad, relieved, and proud -- on behalf of the whole team -- to officially announce the release of Battlefield Pirates 2. Time to pillage once again!



After two years of development, many late nights, and with the help of the beta testers, we're proud to release our 1st open beta version of Battlefield Pirates for Battlefield 2. Although we'd like to note that there are still a couple remaining issues, including the need to run your geometry settings on medium, we'd rather get the release out and into your hands today instead of waiting any longer. Indeed, we are at least as excited to play it as all our fans are! With that said, if you're interested in learning more about the development process and exactly what BFP2 is all about, we encourage you to check out today's Battlefield Podcast episode, as we've had the pleasure of conducting yet a second interview with the Battlefield Podcast crew! Be sure to check out their site here for episode 64!

*We are aware there are some issues that have crept up due to "ghosts in the code", so to speak. We apologize for any issues and we'd like to remind you that this release should be considered as an open beta. Once we pinpoint and correct the issues, we will be releasing a patch.*

So, without further ado, here is the Download Information as follows:

• BFP2 can be downloaded from several websites, for a partial list please visit here. The total download size of BFP2 is 402 MB.
  
• Step-by-step: (1) Pick a mirror and download the installer to a place on your computer you can remember. (2) When the download is finished, go to this folder and double-click on the installer. (3) Follow the on-screen instructions. When the installer prompts for an installation location, make sure it points to your \Battlefield 2\mods\ folder. (4) To play, you need to activate BFP2. Please see this Wiki article for instructions.
  
• Start plundering!

Check out this short FAQ for any questions you may have:

• Q: How do I download the mod and how big is it?
  A: See the download and installation instructions above.
  
• Q: Do I need BF2 for BFP2 to work? What about Special Forces?
  A: BF2 is indeed needed, but that's all. You don't need Special Forces.
  
• Q: What are the system requirements for BFP2?
  A: They are identical with those of BF2. In other words, if your computer can run BF2, it can also run BFP2. However, it's good to remember that different maps have different impacts on the performance of your computer and therefore you may want to experiment with the BF2 settings to suit your preferences. Note that you must run your video geometry settings on medium in order to evade any issues.
  
• Q: Hey, BFP2 plays differently than BFP1! Why did you remove/add this or that?
  A: BFP2 is a modification for a different game with a different engine with different features. BFP2 is not a recreation of BFP1, it's a sequel. We've had a new development team with their own ideas and styles, but rest assured we've all done our best to preserve the classic gameplay of BFP1.
  
• Q: I have a server and I'm trying to configure it for BFP2. How do I do this?
  A: Check out our fresh update on the release of the server files. You can obtain further support at the support forum section here.
  
• Q: I found a bug. I think this should be changed.
  A: Report it on the forums and the development team will be after it like a shark follows a swimming pirate.
  
• Q: This lousy FAQ didn't answer my question. Where can I get help?
  A: Check out the support forum section we've got here and post your question there, and we'll be on it.

Now what does this mod really include? We've done loads of updates about maps, weapons, and other stuff, but here's a quick list of contents to tie everything together:
