|
|
Welcome to another update from BF Pirates 2. Today we be showin’ off some new weaponry, modeled by Jimmy the Pirate and Ratkin, and skinned by Tibmaker.
The Smoke Grenade is a deadly mix o’ gun powder and sulfur, filled into a glass jar and lit with a fuse. Once thrown, the jar will shatter and an intoxicating cloud o’ gas will temporarily leave yer enemies gasping for breath while ye make your move.
The Falconet is a deadly swivel cannon, used to target approachin’ enemies. The falconet has two types of ammunition; the Round shot; a small steel cannon ball used to hit enemies and vessels at a medium to far distance, and the Grape shot, a shower of smaller pellets for maiming foes at close range, similar to a blunderbuss.
In BFP1, the falconet had both a very large range and blast radius. Now, there are two types of shots, which have both have a good balance of radius vs range, which is sure to bring a lot more strategy to the game. The round shot lacks the explosive impact that the original falconet had, while the grape shot can be used to shower down hell on an enemy's deck. The grape shot will be weak, but have a larger spread/range then a blunderbuss, and will take considerable time for ye to reload.

The Powder Keg is an explosive barrel with a short fuse timer, useful for blowing up anything ye see fit. Just be sure to clear the area quickly, or ye be findin’ yourself a new Pegleg!
A crew log detailn’ the development of both the Smoke Grenade and the Powder Keg can be found here. Also, many of ye have been requestin' the BFP2 logo to make yer own banners- you can now download it here.
That concludes our update for this week- keep your eyes on the horizon for a new interview with Planet battlefield is rumored to be comin’ into port soon!

keep up the good work!
How would you switch from one shot to another on the falc?
Would it be like switching between missles and bombing on the jets? |

Exactly like that - but we aren't sure if it will be in the first release (probably not), but it will be in the second |

Ooo.... Yuck. I don't like the sound of that. Either you shoot them from long range or short range. You'd have to kill the person on the falc.
If you're in long range, they'll pelt you with the Cannonball ammo.
If you're in short range, they'll whipe you out with the Blunderbuss feature.
Just make the switching between ammo types VERY long. That would at least give attackers a fighting chance, though I think it'd be much better to have two types of those cannons. One with just grape shot and one with just cannonballs.
But excellent work on the models and skins. _________________

Looks awesome! And I agree with Stealth about shot type switching, but first there should be of course some testing to see whats the best. And we cant know it yet. _________________

if it's to shoot out of the same barrel, this is not possible
But it actually looks pretty cool this way- you would scroll between the type of ammo you want to use

What about a sort of "multi-barrel" feature for the falconet to solve that?
Picture 2 falconet cannons, one on top of each other, both welded to a small pole that runs along both of them.
The top cannon fires whatever is currently selected.
As the gunner decides to switch ammo, a long "ammo toggle" animation is shown as he cranks a small wheel, which brings the bottom cannon on top, which is loaded with the alternate ammo. |

so will cannons on ships also have the grape shot feature? In sid Meier's Pirates, the grape shot was used to destroy enemy ships and each pellet was held together with a chain (about three or four strung together)
Keep up the seksi work guys. I would donate money... if I had a credit or debit card. =/
edit: I like klepto's idea too. I was also wondering about the kegs... will we be able to float them on water as well? XD _________________

Ahh your thinking about a chain shot wyumez
Grape shot was a kind of anti-personnel ammunition used in cannons. Instead of a solid shot, a mass of loosely packed metal slugs is loaded into a canvas bag. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grapeshot
A Chain shot is a type of ammunition formed of two balls, or half-balls, chained together. It was used in naval warfare to shoot down yards, masts, or to cut the shrouds, or any other rigging of a ship. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chain-shot
The Round shot was one of the early projectiles used in firearms. As the name implies, round shot is spherical with a diameter slightly less than the bore of the firearm it is to be used in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round_shot |

Dex there was also such a thing as Duckshot, which was basically the same as grapeshot but was made up from anything, and more common on ships. _________________
