|
|
Welcome to another update from BF Pirates 2. Today we be showin’ off some items that are essential to any pirate crew. More renders, ye say? Aye, we still be polishin’ up our levels and have a lot o’ work to do animation wise before we’ll be happy showin ye our ingame treasures!
(click to enlarge) (Modelled by Ratkin, skinned by Tibmaker)
First it be me pleasure to show off the Powder Horn, somethin’ no pirate should be without! Essential for reloadin’ your pistol or musket, this make shift container holds black powder, which is poured out of the end o’ the horn and into the barrel. The Gunner class carries a few extra powder horns and may either use them to resupply himself or his maties.
(Modelled by Jimmy the Pirate, skinned by Tibmaker)
The Carpenter’s Hammer will come in handy for minor repairs on ye ship, and while the repair time is slow, having 1 or 2 Carpenter’s in yer crew will surely mean the difference between ye floating on driftwood or sailing away victoriously from ship battle.
(Modelled by Jimmy the Pirate, skinned by Tibmaker)
The Surgeon’s Satchel contains bandages and herbs needed to heal yerself or yer teammates in battle. The Satchel will most likely only be in for the first few releases as the Surgeon is known to be a heavy drinker an’ its no secret he prefers to bring a mug o’ grog to battle instead of his cutlass…
(Modelled by Jimmy the Pirate, skinned by Tibmaker)
The Spy Glass, or monocular, is available to all classes and allows ye to spot enemies on the horizon, and alert your crew to approaching threats.
(Modelled by Ratkin, skinned by Tibmaker)
New to Pirates is the deployable 2 pounder, which wont be makin’ it’s way into our first release but yer sure to be enjoyin’ it in the next. The 2 pounder will be carried and can be deployed at any strategic location ye see fit. It has a very small blast radius and because of this ye must be sure to make yer shot count and be ready to fight back with yer cutlass held high if you miss!
Lastly today we have 2 new desktop backgrounds created by Bibi, showing some erie environmental level concepts. The art crew have been hard at work and you can expect some of their artwork to be included in every news release from now on.
Download: 1024x768 or 1280x1024-(black border added)

That’s all for today me hearties, check later in the week for some new weapons, news about the renamed classes, as well as a new site layout that we hope you’ll enjoy.
We look forward to pillagin' with you scallywags soon! _________________ "I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harm's way."

Sweet! Another update, does this mean mod is progressing well? Deployable 2 pounders and spyglasses are great ideas! Same with powder horns and satchels.
Can we hit people with the repair hammer? Maybe make it a side click and like a knife, but less damage?
Kind of like shock paddle, but sweeter! I was so disappointed when you couldnt nail people with the repair wrench in vanilla BF2.
Responding to tibmaker's post below this one, i think powder horn looks good... is it older or something? _________________ Yar! The Vombat returns from the depths of time for Battlefield Pirates 2! Ready your clogs for combat!

Yeh nice, job. I won't say anything about powderhorns only being used by rifle men to carry very fine powder and everyone else using cartrages. Though the model is very nice.
The 2pndr i nice though wouldn't something Like Cannonade suit it better as a name? _________________

| 2 pounder looks like a mighty fine weapon for shooting ships and lizards. I just hope it wont be the ultimate infantry killing weapon. |

| Actually that is more like a 1/2 pounder. A 2pdr would need to be mounted onto a sturdier caraige. |

It's true for the army, but not for pirates or the navy. What you've quoted above applies to a nations organised army such as the US;
Pirates rarely carried cartridges because of the tendency for cartridges to get wet at sea- powderhorns were water tight and protected the the powder from getting wet _________________ "I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harm's way."

Dex is pretty right on this one. Plus, most of the gunpowder was shipped in large crates/barrels from overseas. The pirates wouldn't waste time putting them in anything small.
Thats part of the reason pirates were not so great with muskets and flintlocks...they put too much powder in them and they misfired, stupid noobs. _________________

Yeh i doubt they'de spend time putting stuff into little Cartridges, then again considering thats how they were made, and it's most likely that all pirate ammo was stolen from Trade ships and Supply ships, or brought from someone who had stolen it.
Anyway we've taken this to msn to keep the thread relativly spamish free. _________________
